Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola)

Slowly drawing closer, a shape started to emerge
where once only a telltale fin had shown above the ocean surface... |

...then the whole animal was visible, lying on it's
side sunning itself. |

We were allowed to get close enough for fish and
man to look each other over for a few seconds. |

After a few moments, it slowly settled back into
the depths. |
The fish is about 5 feet long and about as long between the fin tips, but
the body is relatively narrow. It moves with slow, deliberate movements.
